Abandoned

I find abandoned personal blogs unexpectedly poignant, especially those containing only a few posts. Someone started something here, perhaps with a plan and excitement for the future, the prospect of establishing himself as a writer scrolling out in front of him. Blogs are the quintessential ever-updating commodity: they’re not supposed to go fallow. Each one that’s abandoned (I’ve let a few go) is a sign that something shifted the writer’s attentions elsewhere, or that he lost faith in himself or the project. And so this personal document sits there, aging without gathering any dust, the only marker of the passing years being the lonely time stamp on the most recent post.
